12 Days Morocco Family Tour: Marrakech, Taghazout, Agadir & Sahara Desert

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your family-friendly hotel or riad. The rest of the day is free to relax, recover from your travels, and take a first dip in the pool. This calm start allows everyone to adjust at their own pace.

Day 2: Marrakech Family Sightseeing

After breakfast, meet your expert local guide for a family-focused tour of Marrakech. Visit the serene and colourful Majorelle Garden, a vibrant oasis kids love. Explore the Bahia Palace and then enjoy a fun horse-drawn carriage (caleche) ride around the ancient city walls to see the sights without tired little legs. Experience the buzz of Jemaa el-Fnaa square from the relaxed vantage point of a rooftop café.

Day 3: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

Adventure begins! We cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass through the High Atlas Mountains, with stops for photos and to enjoy the views. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village that feels like a real-life castle or movie set (it’s been in Gladiator and Game of Thrones!). Continue to Ouarzazate. Overnight at a hotel with a pool.

Day 4: Ouarzazate – Dadès Valley – Todra Gorge

After breakfast, we drive through the Dadès Valley, past its unique “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Our next stop is the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where the family can take a gentle, flat walk along the riverbank between the towering canyon walls—a perfect natural playground for climbing and skipping stones. Overnight in the area.

Day 5: Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert & Camel Trek

Watch the landscape transform as we drive towards the Sahara Desert. The first sight of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes is pure magic. In Merzouga, you’ll switch to camels for a peaceful sunset trek into the dunes (one camel per child). Arrive at your luxury desert camp for an evening of sandboarding, a campfire dinner, and incredible stargazing.

Day 6: Merzouga Desert Exploration

A free morning in the desert! Options include a 4×4 safari to visit a nomadic family and a fossil site, or simply playing on the dunes. After lunch, we begin our drive west, leaving the desert behind and heading towards the coast. Overnight en route.

Day 7: Journey to the Coast: Agadir & Taghazout

After breakfast, we complete our journey to the sunny Atlantic coast. We’ll arrive in Taghazout, a laid-back fishing village turned surf paradise, in the afternoon. Check into your beachfront hotel or apartment and immediately enjoy the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze. The rest of the day is for beach time and relaxation.

Day 8: Free Day in Taghazout (Optional Surf Lessons)

A full free day to enjoy the beach! For adventurous families, we can arrange family-friendly surf lessons with certified instructors in the gentle bays of Taghazout—a fantastic and fun activity for kids and parents alike. Alternatively, simply build sandcastles, swim in the hotel pool, or explore the village’s colourful streets.

Day 9: Free Day: Agadir Attractions or Beach Relaxation

Another day to dictate your own pace. You could visit Agadir’s large beach promenade, take a ride on the Agadir Cable Car to the Kasbah for stunning views, or visit the Valley of the Birds and the Crocoparc. Or, simply choose to do nothing but relax by the sea.

Day 10: Taghazout – Essaouira

Today we drive up the coast to the historic and windswept port city of Essaouira. The fortified medina, a UNESCO site, is much more relaxed and easier to navigate with kids than Marrakech. Walk the historic skala (ramparts), watch local artisans at work, and breathe in the fresh ocean air.

Day 11: Free Day in Essaouira

Enjoy a full free day in this charming city. Families can walk along the vast beach (perfect for kite-flying and camel rides along the shore), explore the fishing port to see the day’s catch come in, shop for unique thuya wood crafts, or simply enjoy incredibly fresh seafood at a port-side grill.

Day 12: Essaouira – Marrakech Airport – Departure

Savour one last breakfast by the sea. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be driven back to Marrakech Menara Airport (approx. 2.5-3 hours) for your departure, bidding farewell to Morocco with a camera full of photos and a heart full of incredible family memories.
